According to a report in Bloomberg, Japan is considering construction of a $33 billion power plant in Ohio, fueled by fossil gas. The plant would emit between 16.2 and 19.3 million tons of CO2 annually. This would make the plant one of the leading emitters of CO2 in the nation. The accompanying methane emissions from the proposed plant make the situation even worse as methane, over a 20-year period is 80 times more potent than CO2 as a greenhouse gas.

This is not a done deal yet, so the public, financiers, the courts, and government agencies have a chance to weigh in. Hopefully, journalists will follow developments closely to keep the public and elected officials informed and prepared to take action to stop this threat to climate stability.

Look out, Ohio, we could be facing
a huge new climate bomb!
